Situated overlooking Capitola Beach, The Palmer Victorian landscape design puts a modern twist on a classical Victorian style garden which would typically have large formal lawns, raised planters, and gardenesque plantings. With this residential design, it was a combination of the client's social lifestyle, their preference for modern, and the era of the architecture that drove the final design of the site and landscape. SSA designed a site that would be able to host many different events - from large entertainment events with local bands to washing the dog off in the outdoor shower after a walk on the beach. The overall design includes an outdoor kitchen with professional grade appliances for the client's private chief, a custom framed restaurant quality pizza oven, an outdoor firepit with cast-in-place concrete benches which capture the panoramic ocean views, two grand staircases which flank a central patio, natural stone-faced walls, and tunnel access into the residences' wine cellar. Citrus trees provide fresh lemons for drinks during dinner parties, while lavender, roses, and succulents provide romantic aromas as the cool ocean breeze flows in on a warm evening.
