Through a close collaboration with the architectural team at Kaplin McLaughlin Diaz Architects as well as other team members, SSA has developed a site and landscape design for the modernized Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. The focus of the design emerged from three key objectives: connection to the community, an emotionally positive environment for patients, guests and staff, and an operationally efficient campus. Responding to these objectives, a new and clearly defined entrance experience has been developed to welcome guests in the spirit of a resort, including valet parking. The edges of the property have been enhanced with new streetscape plantings offering a soft connection to the adjoining community. The interplay of architecture and landscape can be seen in the many plazas and gardens. Courtyards developed as extensions of interior spaces serve both staff and patients, while water features and displays of artwork can be heard and seen throughout the site.
