SSA was hired to develop a masterplan for a Sports Complex at Half Moon Bay High School. The design had a new track and field facility which included new synthetic turf baseball/football field with goal posts and intricate logo, 400m all-weather running track, pole vault runways, shot put and discus, long jump / triple jump runways, and high jump events. SSA completed this project under budget and under schedule by designing an efficient storm drainage system, using concise communication with contractors, and developing accurate cost estimates.
The masterplan design also integrated a new baseball facility which included a synthetic turf baseball field, grandstand bleachers, pitching bull-pens, two batting cages, team dugouts, state-of-the-art clubhouse, public restrooms, new access roads and parking lot, and periphery landscaping, irrigation and utilities.
Since installation of the synthetic turf fields, Half Moon Bay has experienced several storms pushing the 25 year records. The Half Moon Bay fields have been the only ones in the area to drain with no problems, and still remain usable during the heaviest deluges.
SSA was the prime consultant for the Complex, leading a team of seven firms, including: Architect, Civil Engineer, Structural Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Geotechnical Engineer, and Surveyor. SSA was responsible for gaining the required Coastal Development Permit through the Coastal Commission and Division of the State Architect approval. The scope of work included Master Planning, Design Development, Construction Documentation, and Construction Administration for the Complex.
