The City of Sunnyvale hired SSA to provide landscape architectural and engineering services for several existing City Parks in need of rehabilitation. The De Anza Park upgrades were completed in fall of 2024.
De Anza Park is a large playground located off Lima Drive that contained sand and deteriorated resilient surfacing with play equipment installed in 1993. SSA created an “adventure” playground through the use of blue rubber surfacing resembling the ocean and green elevated “islands” that serve as play features in and of themselves. The play equipment chosen reinforces the adventure theme with ample opportunities for climbing, swinging, sliding, spinning, and exploring, and works with the unique topography of the playground. Changes in surfacing from poured-in-place rubber surfacing to engineered wood fiber add interest to the park and serve as a cost-saving measure. Grading and drainage improvements were also incorporated into the design as well.
