SSA teamed with KMD Architects and Hensel Phelps Construction to win a design competition held by the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA). We were selected as the design/build team for this 27 acre, 300 room residential/medical veteran's facility in Fresno. This state-of-the-art, Gold LEED certified long-term care facility was built for the benefit of elder and disabled veterans. SSA designed individual gardens to play an essential, therapeutic role in caring for veterans with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of memory loss. Key design features within these gardens include meandering paths, a central focal point, colorful and interesting plants to help evoke memories, active recreation spaces designed to help maintain physical strength and encourage social interaction, as well as private areas in which to explore and relax. The project also includes entry monuments, memorial parade grounds, therapy and memory gardens, putting greens and bocce ball courts, neighborhood entry gardens, a town center plaza with stage, and native and drought tolerant landscaping.
