Xabatin Community Park Grand Opening!
The City of Lakeport held the Grand Opening of Xabatin Community Park on October 26, to a crowd of hundreds of community members. The Native American name Xabatin (Water Big) is a tribute to Lakeport’s Pomo tribal history. The City honored the Pomo through inviting tribal members to be a key part of the opening, with a land acknowledgment and blessing.
Xabatin Community Park is part of the revitalization planned for the City of Lakeport and has been purposefully designed as a recreational hub for the community. The goals are to create opportunities to enhance community health and well-being, provide space for social gatherings, attract visitors, and provide economic activity to the area.
In designing the park, beautiful views of Clear Lake and Mount Konocti were enhanced through tree alignment and placement of plazas and structures that frame these views. Park Amenities include a concessions/restroom building, shaded picnic areas, splash pad and a large open lawn area that can be used for play, picnicking, and seating for events. Additionally, there is Float Plane Parking for the Annual Float Plane fly in event, which includes a ramp for planes to taxi from the water to lawn area for display in a concourse d’ elegance of float planes. Active areas include a skate park, sequential fitness area (Ninja Gym) and basketball court. Surrounding the grand lawn is an amphitheater, a lake front promenade and pathways with benches overlooking the lake.
The City of Lakeport hired SSA to design the park in its entirety, providing landscape architectural plans, engineering and grant support services. This new park was partially funded by a Prop 68 Grant and had a budget of 5.5 million.
